Q & A with an Oakland Chiropractor: How Pelvic Floor Health Became a Passionate Mission for Dr. Dom

Q&A with an Oakland Chiropractor: How Pelvic Floor Health Became a Passionate Mission

Interviewer: Thanks for sitting down with us today! Let’s start with the basics. Can you tell us a little about your practice?

Dr. Dom: Of course! I’m a chiropractor in Oakland, and my practice focuses on women’s pelvic health, including pelvic floor pain, postpartum recovery, and overall reproductive wellness. I use a combination of chiropractic care, myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, and a unique method called Gyno Fascial Rebalancing™ to help women find relief and reconnect with their bodies. My goal is to provide a safe, trauma-informed space where women can heal and thrive.

Interviewer: That sounds amazing. What inspired you to specialize in this area?

Dr. Dom: It’s been a long journey, but it really started with my own health experiences. I’ve had my share of menstrual issues and pelvic injuries, and for a long time, I didn’t know there were solutions beyond “just deal with it.” When I discovered how much the alignment of the spine, pelvis, and fascia impacts pelvic health, it was like a lightbulb went off. I knew I wanted to help other women understand their bodies and show them that they don’t have to live with pain or discomfort.

Interviewer: What do you think makes your approach unique compared to other chiropractors in Oakland?

Dr. Dom: My practice is very specialized, and I take a holistic approach to care. I don’t just focus on the spine—I work directly with the pelvic floor muscles and fascia, which are often overlooked in traditional chiropractic care. Using techniques like Gyno Fascial Rebalancing™, I can address internal and external tension patterns that contribute to pelvic floor pain, incontinence, or even sexual discomfort.

I also incorporate craniosacral therapy to address the body’s nervous system and create a sense of calm and connection. It’s about treating the whole person, not just the symptoms, and empowering women with the tools they need to feel better long-term.

Interviewer: Your work in pelvic health is so unique. Can you tell us about the journey that led you to this focus?

Dr. Dom: Absolutely. My journey into pelvic health has been deeply influenced by incredible mentors and a growing desire to support women in ways I didn’t even know were possible when I first started. A major turning point for me was connecting with Dr. Danielle Cornelius, a pioneer in the world of pelvic floor work within chiropractic care.

Dr. Cornelius initially focused solely on pelvic floor work and created an approach that’s gentle, trauma-informed, and deeply rooted in her own learning from her mentor, Tami Kent. Tami Kent is the author of Wild Feminine, which is such a profound book about reclaiming and nurturing the power of the female pelvis. It’s a must-read for anyone interested in this work!

Dr. Cornelius expanded on Tami’s teachings and brought them into chiropractic care with techniques that incorporate myofascial release, breathwork, and intuitive healing. Her work is a big reason I was drawn to this field, and I feel honored to be a founding member of a cohort called Gyno Chiropractic that she leads.

Interviewer: That’s amazing. How has Dr. Cornelius’s mentorship shaped your practice?

Dr. Dom: Her mentorship has been transformative. She’s helped me understand how to integrate pelvic floor care with chiropractic adjustments in a way that’s deeply effective and healing. Her focus on the fascia—the connective tissue that surrounds and supports the pelvic floor—is groundbreaking.

Interviewer: How can chiropractic care and pelvic health work together?

Dr. Dom: Great question! Chiropractic care is all about alignment and balance, and that applies to the pelvis just as much as the spine. When the pelvis is misaligned, it can put extra strain on the pelvic floor muscles, leading to issues like pain, incontinence, or poor posture.

For example, if someone has a tilted pelvis, their pelvic floor might have to work overtime to compensate, creating tension and dysfunction. Chiropractic adjustments can realign the pelvis, while myofascial release and breathwork help relax and retrain the muscles. It’s this combination of approaches that really sets my practice apart.

Interviewer: What types of conditions do you see most often in your practice?

Dr. Dom: I work with a lot of women dealing with chronic pelvic pain, tailbone injuries, postpartum recovery challenges, and pelvic floor issues like stress incontinence or painful intercourse. Many of my patients come to me after trying other treatments without much success. They’re often relieved to find someone who understands the connection between pelvic health, spinal alignment, and the fascial system.

Interviewer: It sounds like you’re making a real difference. What’s the most rewarding part of your work?

Dr. Dom: Honestly, it’s seeing the transformation in my patients. So many women come in feeling frustrated or even defeated, and it’s incredible to watch them regain their confidence and sense of control over their bodies. Helping someone move from pain to empowerment—it doesn’t get better than that.

Interviewer: I heard you’re also working on creating workshops. Can you tell us more about that?

Dr. Dom: Absolutely! The workshops I’m developing are designed to go beyond just understanding pelvic health—they’re about creating a deeper connection with your body and exploring how we relate to pleasure and desire.

In the workshops, we’ll cover practical tools like self-care techniques, self fascial release techniques, and breath work, all aimed at improving pelvic health and overall well-being. But we’ll also dive into the emotional and sensual aspects of this work. It’s about understanding how your relationship with pleasure influences your confidence, creativity, and how you show up in the world.

Pleasure isn’t just about sexuality—it’s about how we express ourselves and tap into our most powerful, authentic selves. These workshops will provide a supportive, judgment-free space to explore these ideas, reconnect with your body, and use that connection to step into the fullest version of yourself.

Interviewer: That’s incredible. For someone considering making an appointment with you, what would you say to them?

Dr. Dom: First, I’d say you’re not alone—so many people experience pelvic floor pain or discomfort and don’t know where to turn. My practice is a safe, welcoming space where you can start to heal, no matter where you’re coming from.

Whether you’re dealing with incontinence, pain, or even just feeling disconnected from your body, there’s help available. My approach is gentle, customized, and focused on creating long-term solutions. If you’re curious, I’d encourage you to book a consultation or reach out with any questions.

Interviewer: Any final thoughts you’d like to share?

Dr. Dom: Just that I want women to know they don’t have to accept pelvic pain or dysfunction as “normal.” There are solutions, and you deserve to feel comfortable and confident in your body. Whether it’s through chiropractic care, pelvic floor therapy, or attending a workshop, I’m here to help.
